Call of Duty: Black Ops Censored in Germany
If you live in Germany and programme along getting the upcoming Call of Duty: Black Ops, you Crataegus laevigata neediness to consider importing IT.
Teutonic politicians may have nixed the proposed ban on raging videogames sooner this year, but that doesn't bastardly the commonwealth is all o.k. with its blood and moxie. Succeeding calendar month's Call of Duty: Black Ops – almost certainly one of the biggest games of the yr – has been censored in its German release.
So what's been taken out? According to CODFeed, the violence has been expectedly trimmed down. Equally far as the effort is preoccupied, a scene "where an enemy is shot in slow gesture with ample amounts of gore" has been tamed drink down, and one involving the violent torture of a captive has been removed entirely. Lag, explosions testament no longer grounds limb loss on the part of characters. The mettlesome has also been cleansed of what Germany deems "anti-constitutional symbols," whatever that means.
Perhaps the all but perplexing excision, however, is the removal of the Pronounceable Stones' "Sympathy for the Devil" from the game's soundtrack in the German release. Given that IT is the only song to be slash from the Black Ops soundtrack, it's implausible (though still manageable) that this has anything to manage with likely licensing issues.
The only possible reason that comes to mind is that the birdsong's lyrics citation World War 2 and the blitzkrieg – but only in a single verse. Germany is known for being quite sensitive with regard to World War II references (albeit non without good reason), but is that really enough to get the smooth call removed from the gritty?
Ah well. At least German gamers can still nip on over to one of the other nations in the EU to pick up the regular, not-expurgated version of the spunky if IT means that much to them.
Along an unrelated note, while writing this I mistakenly called the game "Treyarch: Black Ops." That seems like-minded it'd be a fun game to wreak, though I don't know if game designers would comprise specially beneficial at wetworks.
